New Amsterdam is the story of a New York detective, John Amsterdam, who's anything but ordinary. He's brilliant and mysterious, and has the burden of keeping a deep secret -- John is immortal. In 1642, John (Nikolaj Coster Waldau) was a Dutch soldier in the New Amsterdam colony, which would later become New York City. There, John put himself in front of a sword intended for a Native girl during a massacre. In return for saving her life, the girl saved John and conducted an ancient spell in which immortality was given to him. The only way that John will age is if he finds his true love. But to John, finding his true love would be bittersweet. During the past 300 years, he's experienced year after year of endless adventures, perfecting his many talents.
