George Gently is taken from Alan Hunter's Gently novels, in this case Gently Go Man. George Gently's wife has just been killed in a hit and run accident and he believes his nemesis, gangster Joe Webster (Phil Davis) is behind it. Sickened by the corruption rife in the Met Police which allows people like Webster to get away with their crimes, he decides to retire. He then learns that Webster was seen at the funeral of a teenager in Northumberland. His curiosity is piqued, when he learns the boy's death is being treated as suspicious and he asks for the case. Travelling to Northumberland, he teams up with local Detective Sergeant John Bacchus to investigate. When another murder follows, Gently is convinced that Webster is involved, but why would a London gangster be interested in a group of Bikers in the North East?
